GrMud is a tool I wrote to address some of the limitations found with clients such as GMud.  The client has been tailored to work well with NailsChat.com:5150.  Your mileage on other muds may vary.

*If GrMud is misbehaving on your system; specifically, the world screen scrolls 'funny' or you can't see any text at all, download the appropriate instmsi files found below.  I've run these updates on many systems, and in all seriousness, it can't hurt.

Features:

  • Multi Monitor 'Support'
A new button has been added to the main tool bar.  Click this button moves the GrMud window to the next monitor.  In addition to this, when running in a monitor other than your first, the task bar 'button' is hidden from view to reduce clutter.
  • Hotkey Macros
Function keys F1 thru F10 can now be assigned multi-line macros.  The macros can be triggered by tapping the corresponding function key, or by using the new Hot-keys toolbar.

  • File Transfers (click here to see more)
Still a little rough around the edges, the file transfer allows peer-to-peer file sharing, using your active mud connection as a 'go between'.  Does not impact mud server's bandwidth.

  • Refined Interface
Added a few UI elements, and refined a few others to bring GrMud more in line with Windows Logo applications.

  • Stay Alive
Revisited the 'stay alive' code.  Now, in your world settings, checking the stay alive feature will cause GrMud to send a very short message to the Mud every ten seconds.  Hopefully this serves to keep folks from getting disconnected as often.

  • Mostly complete ANSI support.
    Mudding in color!!! *yawn*

  • Login macro.  Send text to the mud upon connection.
    I.e., connect bobo password

  • Url Markup
If some enters www.somewhere.com, GrMud will mark it up for you so you simply click the link (not having to cut and past it into your browser).

  • Triggers
Scan incoming Mud messages for simple text and either respond by outputting Mud commands or playing a sound.  (useful for those of you that idle)

  • Print/Preview
Print the contents of an important conversation.

  • System Tray App
Save task bar real-estate.  When you minimize GrMud it hides itself in your System tray.  (Just click the gray G to restore it).

Files:

GrMud The GrMud setup files.  If your system is up to date, this is all you will need.

Please note, unlike most software installs nowadays, GrMud will not mess with your system.
GrMud
(Stand alone exe)
Just the executable.  Download this file and overwrite the previous GrMud.exe.  If you performed a default install, you will find this file under:

C:\Program Files\Ostapnet\GrMud

Windows Installer
(9x/ME)

Windows Installer
(NT)
If you start GrMud up, and it doesn't look like the picture below (you can't see any text in the display box), download and install this update package from Microsoft.

Again, this file shouldn't adversely impact your system... and remember to reboot after installing it.
